REMIX NOTES:
When I first moved to the Bay Area, my in-the-flesh friend count drastically plunged towards the asymptote, and the inexorable began to unfold—-I started making friends on TEH INTARVEBS instead. Not referring to online dating (you wish), but rather, to something far more satisfying - music pals. DOM is one of those pals. Hurled presciently unto the nets by a few of my favorite blogs, DOM’s “Jesus” immediately grabbed me with its You Forgot It In People-esque laid-back guitar pop, golden + gloriously androgynous layered vocal hooks, and, in particular, its daring lyrics. The song apparently is about working out problems with MDMA, but could serve just as well as a Nieztschean flesh-anthem or as a warped worship tune that hasn’t quite figured out what is appropriate touching. Warm, deliciously short, and to the point, DOM’s track needed only one thing: to be repurposed for the dancefloor about which it purportedly speaks. I tend to like my techno minimal, but given the lyrical focus on drugs, it was time to break out the rave synths for at least a few bars. The percussive noise at the beginning is actually Dom’s (heavily processed) muted guitar strings. All in all, chopped and butchered with sincere love.
You can catch Dominic and his band inciting Worcester vs. Brooklyn drama, dropping equally rad new singles, and jaunting about the northeast end of the USA throughout the spring.
