REMIX NOTES:
I met John O in the midst of a snowstorm straight from the bowels of Satan’s homestead.  Anyone who has spent some time putting on shows knows that all ages concerts are always adversely affected by bad weather.  But an all ages show on a Sunday night in the middle of metereological hell-spit?  You can imagine.  In spite of the unfortunate circumstance, John and the rest of his band The D’Urbervilles absolutely lit the place up and delivered one of the best performances Push Pins has ever had the pleasure of hosting.   The D’Urbs are still blazing trails across our fair country, and now John O has also decided to set out on his own with an incredibly infectious solo project, Diamond Rings. “All Yr Songs” is great pop music in every respect: simple but secretly complex, clever and undeniably catchy.  But it’s also a love song, and working on the remix really brought the emotional valences of the tune to the forefront for me in a way that wasn’t present when I was initially drawn into the song’s hooks. I hope that dimension is expressed to a certain extent in this repurposing.  Some might argue that the lyrics could be ironic —- I haven’t asked John if this is the case, since to be honest I don’t really care (read: it would be embarassing if I was wrong). Besides, there’s nothing ironic about his love for the walkmans, video games, and jean jackets of our collective past.  Those things just ARE really great.

You can catch Diamond Rings playing a series of shows out east, showcasing at SXSW, and toppling corporate empires with the flick of a deft wrist.
